Over the last 10 years, Kibbutz Lotan's Center for Creative Ecology has accomplished some amazing feats:
With all of their composting and recycling efforts, Kibbutz Lotan has annually reduced its overall waste production by 70% continuously for almost 20 years!
Two interesting research projects going on right now are:
1) developing waterless human sanitation systems and
2) interactive energy consumption monitoring for solar powered homes.
The photo above shows where they connected the first solar grid PV (photovoltaic) system in Kibbutz Lotan's Solar Tea House and Restaurant in Israel.

- Created organic agriculture fields on top of barren desert sand and bedrock
- Developed community composting infrastructure in coordination with the Regional Authority of Eilat -- which has allowed Lotan to create literally tons of compost
